Creating a metalic material in Fusion

PostSat Dec 22, 2018 8:43 am

Hi guys, I am using Fusion embedded into Resolve 15.2.1 and I am trying some 3D stuff for the first time.

I want to create an epic metalic mograph of metal text and I need to know how to achieve a metalic surface using fusion. The inspiration came from looking at the latest video put out by BMD
s://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vU85RMbrPd4
Great tutorial, but I didn't like the "plastic" look of the text which looked a bit toy-like. Anyway, I like to figure out how to do stuff so now I am on a quest to figure out how to do nice metallic objects in fusion.

I remember looking at this explainer video below for Blender 3D's new "Principle" and I was impressed with his explanation of "dialectric" vs "metalic" materials. Now all that's left is to translate that into Fusion.

He asserts that metalic materials have zero diffusion, are 100% gloss, and have tinted reflections. So that's great, but I am not having any luck implementing this knowledge.

Does anyone here have experience and know-how to point me in the right direction? It would be much appreciated.

PS. I would like to create an exploratory tutorial series about learning Fusion. Obviously I won't be waiting until I am an expert, hence the idea of it being exploratory. I learn something, then I make a video showing what I learned.

Fusions materials are not that modern and dont follow the PBR (physical based shading) rules, i'm quiet sure you cant even build one by yourself.

But nothing stops you from building a shader which looks metallic, its a questions of color, reflections and bump

here are some older tutorials about shading in fusion:
