How to get Write-On-controls for polygons/imported SVGs

PostWed Jan 23, 2019 10:39 am

Hey everybody,
seems like another nooby/simple question to me, but I searched the forum and nobody seemed to have asked that question yet.

How can I get Write On/Write Of controls (known from the polyline tool in the paint node) for polygon shapes or imported SVGs (which result to be polygon-nodes in the end ;) )

To put that into context, which may help you in understanding. I mostly need that functionality for animating tracks (which I import using an SVG) on maps. I do not agree to mask paint the whole track or to rotoscope the whole track in a paint node every time, just to have a 0-100%ish Write On control. So I would be very happy to see the Write On control to make this part of my life more easy 8-)

Thanks guys

Can you provide a link to an example comp or SVG? That way I can see if I can figure out a way for you to do this.

Hey Sander,
thanks for the reply. Unfortunatelly it is hard for me to provide a link right now. But you can easily reproduce my situation. Just start a new Fusion comp, add polygon node, e.g. an ellipse, uncheck "solid", increase the border width... and now I would like to have Writ On controls :)
An SVG would also end up as a polygon like this.
Thanks again

Well, it takes a bit of jumping through hoops, but it's relatively easy.

When you import your SVG make sure that the imported polyline is 'published',
then create a new polyline stroke in your paint tool, but instead of adding points, right-click all the way down in the polyline settings (where it says 'right click here') and select connect to--> 'the name of your imported polyline'. Now the polyline from the paint tool will be linked to the imported one, but it will have the write-on controls enabled. You can then change the brush settings to set the size and softness of your stroke.
