Upgrading to Fusion Studio 16

PostFri Apr 19, 2019 1:50 pm

Hi,
I purchased Fusion Studio 9 less than 12 months ago and wondering if I'm entitled to a free upgrade to Fusion Studio 16, has there was no maintenance updates.

If I am do I need to register Fusion Studio 9 dongle serial number some how. There was no instructions in the packaging, just the dongle and a SD card with software and manuals. I just plugged in and enjoyed compositing; and found a few bugs along the way.I

I have noticed if I go to download the the Fusion Studio 16 beta version the serial number box auto fills in with a set of numbers. Is this my dongle number? Does this register my version 9 or ties my dongle to the beta version of Fusion 16 and I would need to pay for a full version when beta testing is finished? Or am limited to just testing Fusion Studio 16 beta, while its in the beta testing stage?

Also can I install Fusion Studio 16 alongside Studio 9 while I'm trying it out. But continue with client projects in Fusion Studio 9.

Thank you for your time. A lot of questions I know.
Cheers Mark.

A Fusion 9 Studio dongle will work with Fusion 16 Studio and DaVinci Resolve 16 Studio.

I don't believe you can run side-by-side Fusion Studio 9 and Fusion Studio 16.

Peter to confirm.

You can have them both installed, but you won't be able to use them both at the same time.

So, if you have Fu16 running, Fu9 won't start, and vice versa.

I have them open together quite a lot to test render speeds, compatibility etc.

That is interesting. On my computer, I can never get them both open at the same time. Could be an OS difference. I was testing on Linux (CentOS). What do you use?

I'm on Windows 10, so that might make a difference indeed.

I also found that if I change a User Path Map (in my case for FFmpeg since they require different versions) one version of Fusion affects the other. It was strange since v16 didn't have the Path Map, but once I added it, it changed the existing Path Map for v9.

Windows 10.

Cool. Thank you for everyones response, I'm just finishing the upgrade to Windows 10 pro from win 7 and doing a clean install of all my software, before imaging the drive.

Hoping Sander de Regt is right, will be very cool to test programs side by side.

Will let you know my findings on Monday. First family BBQs over the weekend.I

Thx Mark.

Check to see if your Preferences are pointed to the same place. You may need to remap your Profile to get separate prefs for Fu9 and 16.

Hi,
Screen grab of both Fusion Studio 9 and Fusion Studio 16 running side by side with the same project.

Brayan Ray mentioned to check preferences; And yes the Default Path Maps are the same for both applications, so a wise choice to separate them. Maybe BMD can do this in the next Beta as default during the installation process.
