What is going wrong by my side?
On macOS the Fusion.app process isn't typically started from a terminal session so it doesn't inherit the environment variables that exist in zsh.
This means you have to define the environment variables you want to access inside of Fusion using a LaunchAgent .plist file placed in either your "/Library/LaunchAgents/" or "$HOME/Libary/LaunchAgents/" folders. (Note the file permissions have to be set correctly for the .plist to be loaded correctly.)
There have been several discussions on the topic of Fusion & macOS environment variables on the BMD Forums and Steakunderwater.
