Fusion Performance Question

PostSat Jun 08, 2019 6:52 pm

In Fusion Preferences for my Comp there is a GPU setting.

If I set
GPU Tools to Enable
API to CUDA and
Device to GPU then
when Rendering, the CPU runs at about 90% and the GPU runs at about 2%.

I would expect the GPU to take most of the load in this case. Am I correct?

I’m assuming you’re using Task Manager. Don’t trust Task Manager. Open up a shell and run

Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVSMI\nvidia-smi.exe -l 2"

You should see your memory utilization/allocation spike up and this utility will give you accurate GPU usage. However, utilization really relies on the nodes being used (some are heavier hitters than others), the graph complexity, and caching.

Cheers,
Mike

Does anyone know if there is a proper list of ops that have GPU compute accelerated mode? Not meaning opengl rendering related but pure compute ones. The truth seems to be somewhere between "a few selected" and "all of them" when asked about how many of them actually call gpu to action when processing is set to gpu mode.

Mike
Thanks for the tip regarding the SMI utility.
I am currently using it with Fusion Studio 16 and it works fine but it does not list the GPU Memory used by Fusion. Is this to be expected?

I am rendering a comp which normally takes several hours to render.
I note that it starts to render with a 100% GPU utilisation and about a 20% CPU utilisation.
After a couple of minutes the GPU drops to about 2% and the CPU increases to 90%.

Any idea why this could be?
When this happens my Task Manager Memory utilisation is less than 30%'
and the Fusion screen Cache is around 10%.
