Advice Request ? Correct missing lights Helipad Drone Shot ?

Good Morning,

I am relatively new to Resolve (with some previous experience with FCP). I am currently finishing a live project and need to create a 'post production fix' - in Fusion. The shot in question was taken by drone at dusk - focussing on a vessel with an illuminated Helicopter Pad

The shot has movement - with a low IN transitioning to high OUT

Unfortunately there are 4 lights around the Helipad that do not function in reality

It will not be possible to re-shoot this scene

As a result I wish to apply Fusion to find a work around... ASAP

(In photoshop this would be an easy fix to a single frame - cut / paste a 'working light' above the lights that are not working)

As video is multi frame per second and the fact the drone shot itself includes movement, clearly this fix will involve animation

Further I would like to colour correct the lights before rendering the finished video

I would greatly appreciate if anyone can offer some winning advice or suggested workflows about how I may successfully tackle and resolve this problem ?

Many thanks in advance...

You probably need a 3D camera track, but it doesn't have to solve the camera and the ship, just the camera relative to the ship. The lights on the helipad and the H should make that easy.

Once you have that you can make a plane or ring geometry that is mapped with the footage and just rotate it so that the working lights move to the place where the non-working lights are. Then you mask off the overlapping lights.

It might be possible to do this with the planar tracker, too, but I'm not as familiar with that tool.

That’s a planar tracker candidate. The deck of the boat is the plane to track. Easy with theses hicon lights.

Planar track should be enough. I'd clone nearby lights to fill in the missing ones.

Firstly I am delighted you three have so kindly responded !

I am working on the final cut with a deadline looming on the horizon !!!

I wonder if you would be able to steer me in the correct direction to find an appropriate Tutorial for Planar Track in Fusion / Resolve ?

I also 3D Model in Rhino and Render in Keyshot - however believe the most simple solution will remain in Fusion...

As I am a beginner for Fusion, I would greatly appreciate any springboards you may be able to suggest in plain language ?

Best regards, Tim

If you can share the shot, you can DM me. Maybe I can walk you through it.

Dear Sander,

Many thanks indeed, I would greatly appreciate your Walk Through !!!

I am working on the FINAL (final) Cut at the moment, I have almost completed the segment where the Helipad shot is shown. I believe it will be 'best' to only correct the 'minimum' final selected shot - for accuracy etc.

I will message you ASAP in the next 24-48 hrs...

Gr, Tim
