Help with Auto-rotate

PostMon Aug 26, 2019 6:08 pm

I'm new to Davinci Resolve 16. I have already learned to Automate Line and Ship on a Map.
I'm trying to make Clips of out Cruise Ship course and Arrival at Ports.
I guess I'm over doing it but after seeing the Tutorials on YouTube. I thought I could figure this out.
No Luck!!!
Can someone please help???
I'm trying to Back up (Stern First) a ship on an Arch , at the end of the arch the ship has to go Forward(Nose First).
I would like to attach an Mp4 of the action so far but I don't know if I can Attach an Mp4???
I'm attaching Jpg of what I have done so Far.
Any help would be appreciated.
Old Retired USAF SMSgt.

Thanks

Joe

I presume you're attempting to use an expression to accomplish the auto-orientation, and you find the ship flips its heading when it reverses direction?

Probably the simplest solution is to make a copy of your Transform. In the original, delete all the keyframes from the beginning to the reverse. In the copy, delete everything prior to the reverse and invert the expression that controls the angle. Then at the point where the ship flips its direction, use a Dissolve to cut from one to the other.

Another solution would be to set up a selection condition, like iif(time<50, [expression], -[expression]) Yes, that's really two i's.

Bryan

I really appreciate your Reply. I did not use any expressions. I used Mask Paint, Polylinestroke icon. Then I key framed the path. Published.
To Animate the Ship I used the Merge2 Node created a Path, Connected the Polyline to Value. Removed the Keyframe on Displacement. Created transform, resized, changed angle.
Finally to Autorotate, on Merge2 Tools Angle connect to Path1, Heading
Transform, adjusted angle.
Merge2 Modifiers - Keyframed Displacement.

I don't know how to use Expressions.

Thanks for the Reply and Help.

Hi Bryan - You probably meant to say iif, two i's ;-)

(Of course I know you know, but just for others who may come across this thread)

Oh, dangit, you're right. I keep getting it mixed up with an old logic class. Will update to reduce confusion.
