How to play a Windows BMD 8bit-422 file on a Mac

PostWed Mar 04, 2015 9:19 am

I have some BMD8bit-422 AVI-files from a Windows PC, which I want to open on a mac, but how? In VLC on the Mac they show perfectly, but I cannot convert them, not in QT, not in Streamclip.

What can I do? I would like to have these files as ProRes files in order to edit them.

PS: my Mac has the standard BMD Codecs installed, that come with BMD Video Desktop! ...and BMD10bit-422 AVI files work without problem !

Try using handbrake, it may convert the files to a mp4 format for you

Better still, use ClipToolz 'Convert' v2 installed on the PC as it will make perfect ProRes files from just about anything and they'll run on both Mac & PC. Free download from http://www.hdcinematics.com

I prefer not to convert with any kind of converter. The reason behind this is quality ...and anyway there is "BMD desktop video" is installed on both platforms.. on the mac and on the winpc. I cannot understand why I should have to convert a BMD 8bit YUV file PC to a BMD 8bit YUV file on a mac.

Can anybody of the BMD support explain the problem behind this?

I think it has something to do either with the "fourcc" setting or another flag in the code. I think technicians of BMD could have an answer to this.
