I know, reading manuals is a sooo 90es....

Grab a still by right-clicking into the viewer. Than right-click on the grabbed still in the gallery and than on export.

Googled how to export a still and found this forum entry. Frank, since OP never thanked you for the answer, I'll thank you instead. That helped. :)

Davinci Resolve 14 Public Beta

Thanks to Frank for getting me close!

1. Scrub to the image that you would like to export.
2. Click over to the color workspace
3. From the menu bar choose "View > Stills > Grab Stills"
4. This puts a still over in the Gallery area
5. Right click (secondary click) on the image that was just created and select "Export"
6. Choose Export settings and then save the file where you would like

The only thing that I'm missing there is DR remembering the file format from last export, would be really nice if you have to to quite a few exports.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

There's a lot more to Resolve's ability to Capture and Export a Still image. In Resolve's Color page and as a popular way of working, once a Colorist is happy with the Grade on a particular scene, a Still is grabbed (often using a dedicated button on many hardware Panels) to 'store' that Grade inside the Still. The Still appears in the Gallery where it can be labelled and used via the 'split screen' feature to compare with the Colorist's manual Grade of a following scene. A 'right click' on the Still in the Gallery will allow the Export of that Still in several different file formats but it will also allow the Colorist to apply that previously stored Grade to a new scene.

Hello,
I am a new forum member and resolve 16 noob. My experience is with PP.
I realize I am going to sound silly, but I have had NO LUCK with the manual on ANYTHING I have researched in it. It is only from the help of other web searches that I have learned anything.
The above instructions do not produce a still in the media bin. I need to grab a still to export to GIMP, and all my searches and attempts yield zip!
HELP!

Correct, they don't produce a still in the Media Pool, they create one in the Gallery, which is a different button you have to click on in the upper left corner of the Color page.

Turns out I had a lot of stills in the gallery when I sorted this out. I was feeling a bit embarrassed, but I didn't know how to delete my question while it was pending approval. Thanks for the help!

Exporting a still from Resolve 16 doesn't work for me - I get a drx and a dpx with no option to export a tiff or jpeg.
I note the manual is actually out today but I get no option for file format.

The Apple App Store version has that limitation.

Really?
So I have paid for an App Store version of Resolve 16, which doesn't have all the features?
My other paid for version Resolve 15 with a dongle on another computer ( who on earth thinks a dongle is a good idea in the 21st century ? ) actually outputs stills but the computer would need reconfiguring to run both 15 and 16.

This is crap, and is also causing me unnecessary workflow issues.
Resolve 16 should either work or not be released.

The App Store version is crippled by Apple requirements. You need to argue with Apple not BMD.

If this is true then Resolve 16 should not be sold via the App Store; without a massive caveat stating that despite appearing to be a full version it simply does not work.

Are you saying a version with a dongle will work on the same computer ?

How can Black magic accept this sort of collaboration with Apple? They seem to be happy enough selling their eGPUs via Apple outlets.

If you have a legit dongle, just kill the AppStore crap and install the real thing.

I am in the middle of a project so I am treading very carefully here.
My main retouch computer has Version 15 functioning as it should on the dongle.

My MacBookPro, with an eGPU has version 15 and an App Store Vs16 on it.
If I put the dongle onto the eGPU ( it requires classic usb connection), version 15 does not recognise it; I get to a situation where I am told to buy it ( again) in order that I may unlock features.

So I have two perfectly legal paid for versions: version 15 only works as studio version on one computer and version 16 from the App Store is not fit for purpose.
The only way to get 16 Studio version on the MacBook Pro would be to pay a third time and probably collect from a store in 24hours.

This should not be sold on the App Store if it doesn't work.

The App Store version DOES work. There are a few limitations, that's all.

And the dongle should work too, try an adapter in the other port.

If still is not exported I would consider that a major limitation.
Try a google search there are plenty of issues.

Regarding try the other port:
Latest MacBookPro has Thunderbolt 3 ports not suitable for a dongle. I have tried the dongle in the ports on the Black Magic eGPU Pro and on an OWC powered adapter. It lights up but the software does not see it.

Anyway to export stills at a higher resolution than HD? Although my project settings are set to 4k dci anytime I export a still from the gallery all I get is an HD file. I even went to the export tab and made sure it was set to 4k dci just in case that mattered.

So what I do is edit on an UltraHD Timeline, go to the deliver page and for the Format of export, select TIFF and the Resolution to UltraHD, then on the timeline, locate the part I want to export as a still and set an In/Out point at the same place (I and O key), and change render to In/Out Range, then add to render Queue and start render.

This has the effect of outputting a single Still image at the resolution of choice.

The dongle for 15 should unlock 16 as downloaded from the web site rather than the app store.

The app store version does not need the dongle but suffers from limitations due to Apple's sandboxing rules.

Thank you! I've been exporting to those 16 bit tiffs and it has been working beautifully. I'm literally getting 25 times larger file sizes. I wish there were more still formats to export nonetheless I can take that tiff file into Affinity Photo and convert it into a different format from there.
