Decklink 8K to HDMI 2.0

PostMon Dec 11, 2017 11:10 am

Hello,

What do I need extra to output 4K 2160/60P MIDI 2.0 from Decklink 8K card preserving 2020 color space?

I think you will have to wait a year or more.. There is nothing there yet.. Nice to be a early adopter..

Even the Teranex AV which is the 4K flagship converter from BMD, does not allow 2020 color space. Only REC 601 and REC 709 colorspace.
While it does have HDMI2.0 2160P60 outputs..

Hello,

I was looking at the Teranex.

Since Decklink 8K does 4k 60p cheaper and the combination with Teranex does LUT (I have Calman), so I guess that is the closest for now, just updated the converter later as you mentioned.

Daniel,

So the connection would be one of the 12G SDI ouputs from Decklink 8K to Teranex SDI to HDMI 12G for 4K60P?

You'll need the AJA Hi5-4k-Plus

https://www.aja.com/products/mini-conve ... i5-4k-plus

It only deals in Quad 3G, but the Decklink 8k can output as 4 x 3G as opposed to 1 x 12G.

Then the AJA will convert to HDMI, in Rec2020, with any embedded HDR metadata too.

I was looking into the teranex big one..
Just looked up the teranex mini 12G sdi to hdmi..

And while it does support 4:4:4 and it does support 2160P60.. It does not name REC2020.. Might be a software update in the future or maybe non excisting.. You never know.. ;)

But yes a 12G sdi feed from a decklink card into a Teranex output to HDMI will give you 2160P60 hdmi for your monitor..

EDIT> I checked the AJA converter.. While it does mention that it supports 2160P and 4:4:4. It does not mention direct 2020 support. But they do have HDR support were they do some conversion to HLG which is BT.2020.
I guess looking at the BMD products they have not yet landed the plane called HDR into there hardware line. Guess Davinci does support it right? . While AJA and Atomos have HDR support these days.. So i guess it's just a game of wait and see..

I must say.. If you are really into HDR.. I have a Atomos Inferno and because of the image quality of that unit i boughed myself the Atomos Sumo on black friday. And i must say WOW.. The HDR footage comes to live.. It is so much better than my old 3G reference monitor. *but also have to mention i'm a multicam live broadcast engineer. Not an Editor. ;) But just the image quality was so much crisper and playing with the HDR options in the monitor makes so much differnce in color science.. The Inferno and Sumo both have BT2020 support btw.. So 12G into the Sumo monitor would give instand result i guess..

Tiny screens though :)
19inch for UHD is good just to "see" image not really to work with it (it's also only HD resolution natively).

I know it's a HD screen ;) But the image is very nice.
We use the Sumo for for recording and Shading monitor with it's vectorscope and histogram functions.

It will do 4 channels ISO HD recording in the future with a software update which was for us the selling point to go with that price point.

4 channels HD recording for our smaller multicam setups is just wonderfull. But i get offtopic now

Yep, all sounds good.
Old days you needed expensive and huge setup to record 4xHD channels :)

AJA Hi5-4K-Plus seems the only way for now.

BMD should come out something equivalent or something supports IT2100 for the future.
