RAM and storage for editing 6k

PostTue Dec 24, 2019 12:07 am

Hello,

I want to buy the BMPCC 6k and the new MacBook Pro.

I'm not sure about the RAM and storage.

Are 32GB RAM enough to edit 6k? Or should I take 64GB?
Is it better to have the project files and footage on an external drive like the Samsung T5?
I think about taking a 2 TB SSD in the MacBook Pro, it's much faster but can you recognize the difference while editing?

Thanks :)

If we are talking BRAW here and editing in a 4K/UHD timeline, 32 GB is plenty as long as you don't make complex work in Fusion.

Your bottleneck will not be SSD speed, but the CPU and GPU.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Studio 18.6.6, MacOS 13.6.6, 2017 iMac, 32 GB, Radeon Pro 580
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G
