10bit 4k out for laptop?

PostSun Jan 12, 2020 8:17 pm

Hi people, i'm considering a portable solution for grading

portable intended as laptop connected to a 4k big screen...

considering that the laptop is powerfull and has both thunderbolt - pcie - usb3 outputs

what is the cheapest solution to exit 4K 10bit video HDMI for playback?

i would like to avoid to spend 1000€ for a UltraStudio 4K Mini just to exit signal to a monitor
so any advice or alternative solution is very wellcome

if there is already a thread about this a link is wellcome too

thanks in advance

Then you might need to wait for NAB and hope for a successor to the Mini Monitor.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

You could get a Sonnet Echo Express SE I Thunderbolt 3 to Full-Height/Half-Length PCIe Card Expansion System and a DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K which would cost you around $450.

Output: UltraStudio 4K Mini, Desktop Video 12.4.2

Yes. But bulky for a laptop.

this is something i was considering but all these egpu boxes are way big and most of them have a power unit as well...the decklink mini moniotr 4k works with the motherboard's power already

i own already one minimonitor 4k

so i'm wandering if there is a small and cheap e-pci connection where to attach a new minimonitor 4k
i'll build my own box based on this config later on
