Mini Recorder on Mojave, working well !!!

PostSat Feb 08, 2020 4:43 pm

I'm using an UltraStudio Mini Recorder on a 2017 MBP 15" OSX Mojave 10.14. All installed with the latest BM Desktop Video 11.4.1 and connected with a Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adaptor... it's working really well in Blackmagic Express (capture, video, audio everything) ....and reports as the following with Apple System Report / Thunderbolt:

Vendor Name: Blackmagic Design
Device Name: UltraStudio Mini Recorder
Vendor ID: 0x4
Device ID: 0xA129
Device Revision: 0x1
UID: 0x00040000003C5E10
Route String: 1
Firmware Version: 7.2
Port (Upstream):
Status: Device connected
Link Status: 0x2
Speed: Up to 10Gb/s x1
Port Micro Firmware Version: 0.2.5
Cable Firmware Version: 1.0.16
Cable Serial Number: C4M435602H3F798AJ

My problem is that I can't get any other software (Quicktime / FCP / ScopeBox / VLC) to see the Mini Recorder device at all... it's as if it's not connected? So it definitely works... but only with Blackmagic Express, No other app can see the thunderbolt device at all ???

Help! (thank you)

I'm on Catalina on my MBP 2015 and the Mini Recorder works well in Quicktime when I select
Choose File > New Movie Recording
The capture was done in 720@59.940 ProRes 422.

I've not tried other video capture applications yet.
Can do that tomorrow.

Yes, I was using it successfully on a 2013 Thunderbolt 2 MBP and all was fine... it's just something about the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) or Mohave MBP that's changed? What's really confusing me is that it works fine in Blackmagic Express... so I know its working... I just can't see the source in anything else?

Ahh now I know why.
I've seen posts that BM have done about their Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 equipment do not work when using a Thunderbolt 2/3 adapter like the one from Apple.

Verify that your blackmagic kext is allowed on your Mac.
Otherwise uninstall and reinstall the software.

I can see my camera just fine on my iMac with Mojave, both in Media Express or in QuickTime.
My adapter is by Akitio, called T3T.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
