Sonnet Echo Express Thunderbolt PCIe Expansion for MBP?

PostFri Sep 21, 2012 1:50 am

Just found out about this today.

Has anyone used this? Will it benefit a 15" Retina MBP using Resolve?

Ive posted a few comments.
Yes it does help.
You can use a BMD Intensity Pro or DeckLink.
I tested with their Tempo SSD Pro and had 15fps with RAW from BMCC (thanks John Brawley).
With any HD its butter :)
Cant use it as GPU expander though :(
All in all, a great addition to the Retina.

Wait a sec, I'm confused by your statement.

If it's not a GPU expander, then what is it? I mean, if it can host a Red Rocket, then why not a Nvidia Quadro 4000?

So I won't get any advantage from using it with Resolve on my Retina MBP 15"?

It can do a lot of things, just not GPU acceleration. You can use it for a I/O card, or SAS or Fibre card.
