Rocket-X vs GPU

I have the full version of Resolve, a Cubix Xpander with 2 GTX Titans in it and a GTX 580 in the main machine (Windows). I currently run a Red Rocket as well.

With the new Dragon footage not supported on the old Red Rocket, and a new Rocket-X at $5,000, I'd like to think about alternatives. I could easily add 2 more GTX Titans (or similar) for far less than the cost of Rocket-X, but performance can't suffer.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone from BlackMagic about whether the GPU debayering in Resolve 10 will allow me to grade and transcode in Resolve without a Rocket-X yet still see 25fps at a decent resolution. Is this possible?

In my experience the RR is good for previewing, but the debayer is a bit more noisy compared to the CPU/GPU ones...

I'm curious to hear an answer as well..

Is the new Rocket-X even supported in Resolve 9/10? I have one on order but not harassing Red for shipping time until I'm sure it is supported.

Well right now the SDK from Red doesn't support GPU debayering so a graphics card shouldn't do much here right now. However hopefully Red will release the new SDK that supports GPU acceleration and then some Titans may be a better investment.
I would expect it to take a few months before we see the new SDK, maybe as much as half a year.

RedCine-X 21 is now through several stages of beta and handles the debayering very quickly on one Titan. On 5K footage it's faster than my standard Red Rocket.

Any news yet on when Red might release the SDK to BM?

Rocket-X is supported on Mac and Windows on Resolve 10.

Rocket-x is supported in resolve only or is it also supported in Resolve lite?

What does the Rocket-X do that a normal GPU (like a Titan) can't?

I think, absolutely nothing! Even worse, I think that new rocket-x IS actually GPU..
Did anyone took cooler of the Rocket-X to see what chip is debayering under the hood?

Worth noting RR is different than RR-X.

Any advancement on this with alternatives to the red rocket x, how latest resolve speeds up gpu debayering and rendering, and what chip the red rocket uses? I'm interested in configuring a system that can do a maximum if 8kp60 16 bit maximum red data rate real time, full res. That should do me for the next 5-10 years on whatever 8k camera.

Another issue is, how does prores use go on windows and Linux these days?

Rocket-X internally is most likely an AMD GPU (maybe with some other dedicated chip) with special code inside. As far as I can tell RED SDK does support GPU debayering now- this is the main difference compared to old times.
There are 2 things which Rocket-X does:
- debayering
- JPEG2000 decoding

and when you use GPU then decoding is done on the CPU (that's why you need and see e.g. 18 cores busy) and debayering on GPU. What slows down whole process is JPEG2000 decoding. Because it's wavelet based when you switch to 1:2 res decoding power demand is way lower, so suddenly everything works in real time. New GPUs like Titan etc should have no problem with debayering part (even at 6K)- it's JPEG2000 decoding which is bottleneck.
