23.98->29.97 convert in output?

PostWed Oct 03, 2012 7:02 pm

When working with 23.98 material is it possible to convert to 29.97 on the output/delivery stage? When I pull the frame rate down it only shows 23.98 as an option.

What device are you referring to?

In the decklink boards and Multibridge setups you can do this from the Final Cut Pro timeline. just change the Video Output settings accordingly. If you play out at 29.97, whether you're outputting HD or SD 23.98, you can output to 29.97 with pulldown. We do it all the time in both a Decklink and Multibridge-based FCP 7 systems.

I can't speak to other applications, but the hardware is certainly capable of it. assuming, that is, you're talking about capture boards here.

Re: 23.98->29.97 convert in output from Resolve9?

PostWed Oct 03, 2012 8:15 pm

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I'm working with 23.98 material in Resolve but would like to output either 29.97p or 59.94i. Right now I'm using Adobe Media Encoder to do the conversion but that means a two stage render. Is there any way to do this right out of Resolve9?

ahh - sorry, we don't have a Resolve setup here, so I couldn't say. I'm sure someone else here will know, though.

<bump>

anyone know if it is possible to render 29.97p or 59.94i when working with 23.98p footage in Resolve9?

Resolve render frame rate is locked to the Conform area "Calculate timecode at" frame rate.

Unless you have the "Handle mixed frame rate material" option enabled, and have mixed frame rate material in the Media Pool, and are rendering in "Individual Source Clips" mode. In that case, the files are rendered out at the same frame rate as the source files.
