Hackintosh Build Advice for DaVinci Resolve 10

PostFri Dec 20, 2013 3:29 pm

I unfortunately have a macbook air that can't run Resolve, and even if it did it would be useless, so I was thinking of building a hackintosh that won't take up a lot of desk real-estate, like a mac mini, for around $1000.

The DaVinci system requirements can also be a little confusing, but I don't need it to be a beast, just pretty good with resolve.

Here's what I've compiled from http://www.tonymacx86.com

CPU: Intel Core i5 Quad Core 3.4GHZ
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI (with USB 3)
Ram: Corsair 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3
Case: BitFenix Prodigy
Power Supply: Corsair 500 Watt Modular
Storage: Samsung 840 Evo Series 120GB 2.5in SATA III SSD
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 760

Thanks in advance!

Here is my build.
http://www.adamroberts.net/blog/davinci ... sh-part-1/

More than capable for 2K and 4K (was playing back graded footage from the BMPC4K at 24fps without issue)

If you don't need Thunderbolt you could go with a cheaper mother board of even look at the Socket 1150 motherboards tho they are a little more complex to get running as a Hackintosh.

The Z77 has been replaced by Z87 now. So you could look at those boards if you can't find the Z77 board I used.

If you are only work in HD you could save some money on the GPUs by going with a 2GB GTX and a GT640 for GUI.

The build you have listed should work fine.

Thanks Adam,

I was reading your post last night when I was putting this together. I used to mess around with builds more than a decade ago, but since I switched to macs I haven't, so I'm a little rusty with the current technology.

I wanted a smaller case, and I am going to avoid thunderbolt, but how does my current build hold up in comparison?

I should also mention, that I'm just grading my own material from the blackmagic 2.5k, so I won't be grading with 4k.

Modern components are so much easier to work with. It's mostly just plugging things in, no need for tools other than a screw driver.

Your build looks fine. Should work ok with Resolve. If you are only running 1 GPU I'd look at the GTX780 rather than the GTX760.

Thanks again!

On tonymac's site it says that the gtx 780 doesn't support OpenCL and there isn't any fix yet. Is that an issue with resolve 10?
