EasyDCP plugin questions

PostSat Jan 04, 2014 11:39 pm

The manual is a little brief, and its hard to tell from the demo limit what exactly is going on, so I had a few questions:

If Resolve timeline is 23.976, and EasyDCP output is 24fps, is audio sample rate adjusted on output files for proper sync?

If timeline has 7.1 Audio, 8 mono files, and render audio is set to 8, does this generate a proper 7.1 dcp?
What track order does the output expect? L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs,Lrs,Rrs?
Is it a straight through mapping, 1-1,2-2,16-16, etc? So if I want to create a 7.1 interop dcp, I should manually move the LrsRrs tracks to 11 and 12 on the timeline, leaving 7,8,9,10 empty?

Is EasyDCP license tied to the resolve dongle, can it be moved from workstation to workstation with the resolve dongle?

The jpeg2000 bit rate is not adjustable, what rate is it set at?

Importing the dcp back into resolve it seems like it is always 2.6 gamma adjusted and converted from xyz to rgb, can these conversions be disabled?

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm adding a few questions by the way :

- Is it possible to edit the Digital Cinema Naming Convention when making the DCP ?

- Are the subtitles supported for import and burning into the video stream ?

Thanks.

For those curios, Fraunhofer replied:

Yes. Audio is sample rate converted from 23.98 to 24
Yes, Audio is 1-1 mapped, but if doing interop where channel order is not continuos best to add silent .wavs to empty tracks.
Bitrate is set to 250mbs (max) variable. Its does not seem to be the same encoder used in the standalone version, it is about 5x as slow.

License is not tied to dongle, it is tied to workstation. - Thats not so great.

As of 10.01 there is a composition naming system.
No Subtitles - also not great.

They did not know about DCP playback gamma/color space - they thought it was tied to the easydcp color space in the the timeline settings - but it does not work.

Imported DCPs always seem to be converted to rec709.

So if you are monitoring in p3 or to a xyz dci projector it is broken,

You can try rendering to a codec like ProRes and see what render speeds you are getting. You might be GPU processing bound. There is no reason you should get a different performance to the standalone version. What is your system configuration (CPU speed, number of cores, GPU details)

The decoded files are converted to the timeline colour space you choose in the easyDCP settings, so just set it to P3 and you will decode as P3.
