Monitoring 4K and 2K material on HD monitirs

PostSat Oct 20, 2012 8:06 pm

Hopefully a quick question:

I assume that to monitor 2K footage (Resolve and Premiere) on a HD monitor I need the DeckLink HD Extreme 3D, but to monitor 4K footage on the same HD Monitor can the Extreme 3D provide that or must I wait for the DeckLink 4K Extreme?

I don't want to monitor at 4K but simply downrez the signal for dispaly on a HD screen.

Thanks for any help:)

In Resolve, your source can be almost any resolution and it will be sized to the timeline resolution you set. You can then set an output resolution that is different if needed.
Normally, if you have a HD monitor you will use a DeckLink HD Extreme 3D+ and Resolve set to HD monitoring and HD timeline, even when you have 4k or other res source files.

Thanks for the reply Peter. So if I want to monitor 4K sources or a 4K timeline on a HD monitor an Extreme 3D will do the job from Resolve, am I correct?

What about Premiere, would the Extreme 3D let me monitor 4K sources and 4K timelines on an HD monitor as well? In reading the specs, I am doubting it, but could that be confirmed either way.

Thanks!

Hi, its Resolve that does the resizing, not the DeckLink which is providing the video output.
