UltraStudio HD Mini not detected

PostSat Feb 24, 2024 7:28 pm

Hi everybody - it's good to be here. Apple M1 Mac Studio Max running Sonoma 14.2.1. I have not used Resolve in a while and have just updated to 18.6.

The UltraStudio HD Mini was not detected anymore in the Desktop Panel Setup - using the same Thunderbolt cable I have always used. I saw there was an update for it so I did uninstall first the version in place and then pushed the new 12.8.1. I have allowed BM install in the Mac Privacy&Security settings. Still no luck, The box is getting power - orange led is on - but is not showing up.

Yes, I may buy another thunderbolt cable but I doubt that is the issue. Also the only other thunderbolt line I am using along with the HD Mini is the feed to my monitor - a thunderbolt to Display Port cable. I have disconnected everything else. There should be enough juice. I really would love to have the US HD Mini back in business for upcoming grading work.

BTW I have now kind of the same problem with the Speed Editor. It just shows up in the Control Panel Setup when is on USB. Not in Bluetooth anymore. It's connected and it works in Resolve when in Bluetooth, it is just not detected in the app.

Hope somebody can help or have some insights. Thanks

Sorry, but the older Mini Monitor is not compatible with Apple silicon, you'll need the 3G model.
Regarding Bluetooth, just have your SE fully charged, delete your device list and try to connect again. That worked for me.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Sorry, must have read that wrong. Well then, did it work before Sonoma?
I have made a 'sandbox' system where I had the Mini Monitor G3 connected under Monterey. After updating to Sonoma, it's still seen. Could that be a solution? If not, check for other threads where someone explained how to get around Apple's overcautious security.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, it was working fine a couple of months ago, before all the updates, including the Mac OS. The SE as well. BTW I've tried a a new and shorter Thunderbolt cable and also connecting to a CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub. No luck. It really looks like a software issue, most likely in the Mac Privacy and Security settings - like you mention.

I have the Ultrastudio mini 4k and Sonoma, same thing.

Probably Apple security settings and Desktop Video not being friends :-)

This, from another forum member, fixed my problem. You can try it...

I kickstart it by making an alias on this file and place it on desktop.
/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Blackmagic DeckLink/DesktopVideoHelper

When clicked it opens Terminal and runs the script.
Just shut terminal down after 1 sec and its ok until next
computer reastart. Now your device shows up.

Thank you! but I don't see the Blackmagic DeckLink folder in there.

Thank you jerry, that helps. I can see what I am missing - for some reasons those folders and files are not installed in my Mac. I've kept uninstalling and reinstalling and same issues.

I've tried to download the free version of Resolve on another Mac -same OS - and everything looks like it should be in the Blackmagic folder in Application Support but....the Speed Editor keeps not showing up in Control Panel when in Bluetooth. The US HD Mini shows up in the Control Panel but is not detected in the Video i/o in Resolve. I give up. I am selling it.

Since you’ve got an M1, why not going back to Monterey or Ventura?
I’d bet it’s caused by overprotective mother Apple at work.

Not quite - as mentioned I've installed Resolve Free version on a MBP running Sonoma - same version as my Mac Studio - and the US HD Mini is detected both in Desktop app and in Resolve. I found out that you need to give Full Disk access to Resolve for the US HD to perform. All looking good right? Guess what? No video is showing on the monitor connected HDMI to the US HD when I playback from the Timeline. Maybe is a Free version limitation or I am missing something in the settings? I just thought to share where I am.
