BlackMagic Media Express won't open on MacOS 14.4

I just bought an UltraStudio Mini Recorder (thunderbolt 2 version) for my Mac Pro 2013 to digitise some footage. But I can't get it to work because BlackMagic Media Express won't load.

It just sits there trying to load the program up, bouncing indefinitely on the task bar.

I'm on Sonoma 14.4 and have tried Media Express 12.6, 12.7 and 12.8. Same issues regardless of version.

Desktop Video Setup seems to recognise te Mini Recorder as being connected to the Mac Pro but that's about it. Premiere Pro and FCPX won't recognise any signal coming into the computer.

Why Sonoma on an older computer? I'd only use it if I'm forced to.

in case anyone encounters the same issue as me, I was able to get this working by going back to a version of MediaExpress from circa 2021 and it now works.

Would be kind to post the version number to help others. We all might be forced sooner or later.
I never got that working in my sandboxed Sonoma.

Support for most Thunderbolt 2 devices was dropped as of Big Sur I believe.
