UltraStudio 3G Recorder + Mac OS 14.4.1 Not working?

Hey there!

A few days ago, I had a working setup with my UltraStudio Recorder 3G on my M1 Pro MacBook.

Now, with an updated Mac OS from the next latest to the new latest Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1, the device is not found.

– It's found in the system settings.
– The plugin is not blocked by the privacy settings.
– I downloaded the latest Desktop Video version 12.9

Not working. Am I alone on this or is this some crash between Desktop Video 12.9 and Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1?

I'm on 14.4.1 and 12.9 with a US 3G Recorder and everything works great.

Did an uninstall and re-install.
Still no success...

And it gets more strange.

Ran this in the Terminal:

So it's found by the Desktop Video Update Tool in the Terminal, AND firmware is up to date.
But still a black screen and Desktop Video Setup cannot find it at all?

Please share some wisdom with me!

Verify that's a TB3 or USB4 cable.
Try another TB port.
Uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot and make sure you get the security and integrity notice and accept that in the control panel.

It is an Apple Thunderbolt 4 cable and as I wrote it worked perfectly the other day.

I have tried all three Thunderbolt Ports on my MacBook M1 Pro 16".
I have also, as I wrote earlier, tried uninstalls and re-installs with mandated reboots.

Have you tried going back to 12.8.1 - does that work? As far as I know the only firmware update in 12.9 is for the Ultrastudio 4K Mini, and it's tending to brick that (at least on Windows) so there is no reason why that should make a difference for your device. Nonetheless I think there is possibly for some a problem with 12.9 across the board and having said that if going back to 12.8.1 makes no difference, then you could try a forced firmware update for that version, in the manner outlined in the other thread, regardless of whether it says it's up to date or not - the command will still update.

I doubt it's anything to do with cables if nothing's changed from the other day. Make sure you uninstall and clear out everything you can of a previous version - sorry I don't know how you do that last bit on Mac.

I'm so frustrated right now. This has spoiled 6 hours of my day and risks to stall several days of planned work with deadlines.

Do you have any powered TB3 hub which you could try running it through?
Just in case there’s a power delivery related problem.

Don't got any hub.
The cable is a brand new Apple Thunderbolt 4 cable. Everything worked perfectly a few days ago.

To try and rescue your deadlines, do you have any decently fast storage around to be erased?
If so, install a fresh Monterey on that, boot from there and then install only DR plus Desktop Video.

Thanks for the tip. I’m buying an Atem Mini tomorrow just to get my camera input for recording on my laptop, which is the need I have for my work. Hoping to get the UltraStudio to come back alive again though.

One of my user has the same glitch, but with an Ultrastudio Express

> Ultrastudio Express is seen under the Thunderbolt tab of System Report

Me and Christoffer went through with a test today and concluded that his US 3G Recorder do work perfectly on my computers but not on his.
He will do some work and hopefully get back with more positive news.

My working theory right now is that the Mac OS privacy settings (for allowing extensions) are messed up, and I'm looking at some way to reset those. I'll come back asap with results. This is a really strange error.
