Extreme 3D XLR audio output delayed compared to HDSDI audio

Hi,
I was monitoring my audio through from the XLR output into a mixer and then to speakers with the video going from HDSDI to a monitor when I found that the audio and image were clearly not in sync. When trying to find where the problem was I found out that the embedded audio in the HDSDI signal IS actually in sync (sound coming from the monitor) and it is the XLR outputs that are delayed. When I route them both through my mixer it is like a echo box. I have no way to measure the actual delay but I would say 3-6 frames.
This shouldn't be the case, right? Lucky my monitor can de-embed the audio otherwise I would have never found out about this.
