[solved] Intensity Pro won't work with my computer

PostThu Nov 08, 2012 9:03 am

We've bought a Dell computer specifically to record videos, and the Intensity Pro won't work on it. The card seems not to work on another computers from Dell. I only got it to work on a Optiplex 440 (that is, ironically, below our requirements for video processing).

The not working computers are Optiplex 990 and Optiplex 9010. I've made the more thorough tests on the original Optiplex 990 we've bought for this, though.

Tried with these software setups obtaining exactly the same result:

  • Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits with driver versions 9.6.7 and 9.5.3
  • Ubuntu 10.10 32 bits with driver versions 9.6.7 and 8.6.1

However, it worked well on an Optiplex 740 with Ubuntu 10.04 and driver version 9.6.7.

So, let's back to the original non-working setup. The driver seems to be loading properly.

Code: Select all
# dmesg | grep blackmagic
[   14.137499] blackmagic: Loading driver (version: 9.5.3a10)
[   14.137672] blackmagic_driver 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
[   14.137722] blackmagic_driver 0000:04:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[   14.137794] blackmagic_driver 0000:04:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[   17.530521] blackmagic: Successfully loaded device "blackmagic0" [pci@0000:04:00.0]

However, if I fire up BlackMagicFirmwareUpdater I get this:

Code: Select all
# BlackmagicFirmwareUpdater status
   blackmagic0 [Intensity Pro]   0xff   PLEASE_UPDATE

So, I run the update:

Code: Select all
# BlackmagicFirmwareUpdater update 0xff
Updating blackmagic0: [\] [                                       ] 0.00% completed

It stays like that for as long as a minute or so. Then, it fails:

Code: Select all
# BlackmagicFirmwareUpdater update 0xff
Firmware update failed[|] [                                       ] 0.00% completed

Media Express opens OK, I can select the recording mode but I only get a black screen, no capture at all.

I've tried to set up the card on two different PCIe slots: a PCIe16x slot, and a PCIe1x slot, with the very same results. Pic (obviosly for the viewer, to set up the card on the 1x slot I had to take out the graphics card):

I've sent a support request two days ago but I still got no response from Blackmagic. What should I do?

Updating the computer BIOS from version A07 to version A16 fixed the problem :)
