Final Cut X XML Files crash new resolve 11??? - HELP?

PostSun Jul 06, 2014 7:34 pm

I have just updated to the beta Resolve 11 in an attempt to open an XML file from FCC X, as Resolve 10.5 said it couldn't open an XML 1.4 file, was only compatible with XML 1.3

Now however, when i try to open the XML file in Resolve 11 the whole programme crashes and shuts down completely

I have just spent 3 months editing a project on final cut X and am ready to link up to the original raw files

can anyone help?

Slice the bull.

Divide the project in smaller portion like reels of 15 minutes, simplify the project ad much as you can and see if all or some of the xml does not work. Usually operator try to load a humongous timeline and just one effect does not work. Hunt!

Try importing media and XML separately to see if it's a buggy clip or image file

Thanks for the replies guys

walter, I will try and make smaller chunks to see, however i haven't added any effects as working from proxies made from Davinci and was hoping to link back to the original files but i don't even get to the prompt page where I'm given the option to do this, as soon as i press the option to open the xml it crashes

and Pete, yeah same kind of thing, i don't want to upload the files to Resolve, I'm wanting to link to the origin files that are already in Resolve, they are Raw cinemaDNG files which I'm hoping to relink to, however i don't even get to that point, it crashes as soon as i press the OK button

What I'm saying is
Start a new project
un select "automatically import media" and see if it crashes on ok.

Ok saw that thread and what's actually happening is it's crashing at the finder level during import. Still, try a new project as I said. Are there any multi clips, multi cam anything like that?

No mate. Absolutely nothing just simple proxy files. The most edit is a cross dissolve and I think one or 2 shots cropped a little

I also tried it with another smaller scene and it is crashing with that

Has anyone else created XML's from final cut x and had any success with opening in Resolve 11?

I had a problem with one XML File. In the name of the file must not contain special characters.
That could be a problem.

I had the same issue with FCPX 10.1, a simple single movie dropped as a main scenario, export to XML, and 10 was crashing when importing, immediately. Source file was a BMPC file

I will try with 10.2 and resolve.

FCPXML 1.4 from FCPX 10.1.2 doesn't seem to play nicely with Resolve 11.0.0b.037 in some cases.

Simple edits (i.e. single R3Ds or ProRes files on a timeline) seem to come across fine - but as soon as you have anything remotely complex it crashes. I haven't worked out exactly what it is yet.

As a workaround you can use Xto7 or EDL-X. Both work fine, but with different limitations (EDLs only gives you straight cuts for instance).

We've finally narrowed it down... Resolve doesn't like Synchronised Clips. Every Synchronised Clip we threw at it instantly crashed the system. Transitions, Colour, Transform, Crop, Distort, Spatial Conform & Compositing all seem fine - it's just Synchronised Clips that are causing issues. Haven't tried Auditions or Multicam though.

I had this problem with a project. Found an error in /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/logs/ResolveDebug.txt that mentioned something about channels, so I figured it might be audio related. I duplicated the sequence and went through detaching and then deleting audio on every clip. Exported a new XML file... came into Resolve 11 just fine.

Resolve should really have a checkbox to ignore all audio when importing XML files. Even when it's not causing crashes, I rarely want the thousands of clips across 20 tracks of audio that the offline editor was messing around with to come into my color session; if I want audio at all I'll export a single flattened stereo or 5.1 file per reel and place that.

I'm having this issue with an extremely simple timeline: Straight Cuts, no audio, no transitions, proxy 422 files. All I'm trying to do is import my FCPXml and reconnect to proxies, but I get a crash at the moment of xml import.

Right now my painful emergency workaround is to recreate my edit in Resolve. Any help of where to start on this for future projects? Currently, my workflow is dead in the water. (I don't have Xto7 etc)

1) try to open a fresh project in FCX and see if it works
2) do you have strange characters in the path?

I'm getting this crash too. Very simple 5 minute sequences all cuts. Resolve crashes instantly every time before the XML dialog box should come up.

Did you try Chris Kenny's suggestion? It seems to fix the crash.

Duplicate the timeline (CMD+D), then simply select everything in the timeline (CMD+A), detach audio (CTRL+SHIFT+S), then delete all the audio tracks (DELETE) - then try exporting the XML.

Yes, the latest Resolve Beta works fine with the same XML's that previously crashed Beta 1.

Thanks Blackmagic!

I've still seen the bug with the new beta. et simple timeline. Found if I run the XML through Xto7 it comes in ok.
