HDRX correction - Resolve Vs Scratch

PostWed Nov 14, 2012 4:09 am

I am a cinematographer from Chennai, India. I have shot my latest feature on the Red Epic, lot of shots using the HDRx. Its a great tool to shoot especially on the beach and int/ext matching sequences. I did some tests on the correction of my HDRx shots on both Resolve and Scratch. I feel the workflow of correcting the HDRx images is easy and best when corrected in Scratch, it gives you a lot of control than Resolve. I am not a colorist, so am not able to get into the finer details. Can anyone explain me the difference in the way both Resolve and Scratch works on the HDRx images. I am not able to get a proper response or color correction from the colorists here. Thanks for any inputs.

Can also use the Magic Motion tab in the RAW camera pallet this will give you a blend control.

Both options are not easy, getting a good balance takes a long time especially when trying to key highlights back
