DaVinci trancoding performance

PostMon Nov 19, 2012 5:55 pm

Hi,

i heard some heroic stories about the trancoding performance of DaVinici Resolve especially compared to the heavyweight champions of editing tools like AVID Symphony. (thats what we use)

We are about to order a new machine mostly dedicated to video trancoding. I would like to know more about the trancoding power in DaVinci Resolve and if it can help to save us some time even if its a color grading tool and not a video trancoding tool in particular.

Is it true that DaVinci utilizes the GPU for video trancoding generally or is it restricted to certain formats/codecs?
Is GPU aided video trancoding generally faster than CPU transcoding and is this in fact the magic behind the rumors of DaVinci being very fast for video trancoding?

I would appreciate any information you can share. I really couldn`t find something useful about the GPU part on the internet.

Thank you in advance. :)

Hi,
Do a search and there should be a fair amount on this subject in various ways.
Maybe someone will add to this.
Hope you get sorted.
Radman.
