Intensity shuttle USB3 & Dell XPS 8300

Greetings - Will the shuttle work with Dell machines? I've read that it doesn't.
Back in April 2012 I bought what I thought was a relatively high end
graphics capable machine from Dell:
XPS 8300 Intel 4 Core i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz)
Intel H67 Express chipset
16GB DDR3 SDRAM,1333MHZ, 4x4GB
AMD Radeon HD 6870
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
USB 3.0
2 - 2TB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM

I'm trying to capture off a consumer Cannon HV20 via it's HDMI output and into the HDMI input on the shuttle. I'm getting audio but no video. I've been told that the cable may be blocking part of the signal?

Also, in troubleshooting this I've read that the shuttle won't work with Dell machines. So there seems to be a huge array of variables here from incompatible motherboard, usb chipset, HDMI cable.... I've updated all drivers. Anyone got any ideas on this? I can upload a pic of the USB board if it helps. thx!

You don't say what the actual USB 3 controller is on that machine. You can find this by going into the Device Manager and looking in the USB section. Once you know that you can then also find which driver version it is on.

I suspect you may have to buy a 3rd party USB 3 card with a Renesas chipset to get the USB 3 shuttle working properly as nearly all H/Z67 chipset boards had an incompatible built in USB 3 controller

Yep the usb 3 controller is the key. If you don't have the proper chipset you'll have problems.

Hi Tom,

Did you find a solution to use the Shuttle USB3.0 with your Dell XPS8300 ?

I ask that because I have the same Dell machine and plan to buy the Shuttle USB3.0...

Hi,

I answer to myself that the Shuttle USB3.0 works on my Dell XPS8300 with a NEC USB3.0 PCIe Interface.
By chance, my old NEC Interface has a Renesas uPD720200 Chipset on it. It didn't work with the original NEC driver (version 1.0.18.0) and I had no possibility to install the blackmagic drivers without getting a Windows error code 31, but yet it works well with the Renesas driver (version 2.1.16.0)

The analogic video capture seems to work, but I definitely have to wait on my TBC do capture anything from my old VHS tapes. At the moment, there are dropped frames each time the picture comes to be dark.
