Audio Video Sync Issue when importing H.264 into Post

PostTue Nov 27, 2012 5:24 am

We recently done a multitude of recordings using a BM H.264 Pro Recorder into a Mac Book Pro running Media Express ( V3.1.1) as the Capture software.

The recording when viewed in QT or any other player appear fine. But once imported into Adobe Premiere 5.5 or Final Cut Pro X, the audio and video drift out of Sync over the duration of the recording. We have tried re encoding the files, but this appears to have no effect.

We have tried on MAC OS Leopard and Lion (and mountain) and all have the same affect once imported.

What puzzles me is why the playback fine in QT VLC etc, but won't import properly. What is even more interesting, the timeline of the sequence shows both video and audio starting AND ENDING with the same time duration.

thoughts greatly welcome and appreciated???

I'm experiencing the same issue. The Audio and Video are in sync for about 5 minutes without much issue, but after that is shows worse and worse - at about 30 minutes its way off.

The same question. We've had 30 sec unsync in 2 hours video. Capturing via Express on Mac Pro. The only thing to solve it- to reexport video in QT sync. That's a very bad thing(

The Final Cut Pro weirdness could just be an incorrect "Easy Setup" configuration - however that doesn't explain the problems with Premiere.

Make sure you set up a correct "Easy Setup" in FCP prior to creating the project and importing media or else you can run into problems (i.e. by default FCP has a NTSC Easy Setup, so if you live in PAL land and don't change the defaults, FCP assume all the audio is suited for NTSC regardless of your sequence settings - yes, it doesn't make any sense, but hey, that's FCP!).

If you're having the same issues with Premiere though, something else is up. Try exporting the audio separately using MPEG Streamclip and then re-syncing in your preferred NLE.
