Intensity Pro not detected on PCIe x2.0 slot

PostWed Aug 22, 2012 7:19 am

I have purchased a Intensity Pro card and it was working very well without any problems in my older system having Intel motherboard DG965RY. Few days ago I updated my system using Intel i7 Processor, 8GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro, motherboard DZ77BH-55K (having Two PCI Express* 3.0 x 16 discrete graphics card connector & Three PCI Express 2.0 x 1 connectors). But the Intensity pro is not detected by Windows 7. I tried latest drivers, reinstalled the whole system but all in vain. The only workaround I got as a support is use the Intensity Pro Card in PCIe x16 slot. Now the card is working good but the only problem is now its occupying the x16 slot which I want to use for some other hardware.

Any body can suggest me how I can use the Intensity Pro in its own sized PCIe 2.0 Slot

Someone informed me that by updating the firmware of Intensity Pro can solve the problem. But I dont know how to update the firmware of Intensity Pro.

If u have any information regarding this problem please help me.

Thanks

Hi,

It's hard to say what might be causing the Intensity Pro to work in the x1 PCIe slots you have. But as the card is working OK in the x16 slot, it would suggest that the firmware is up to date. Each version of the driver checks whether any installed cards have the latest firmware version, and will ask you automatically to update if it detects an older version. If the firmware is old, and you don't update, it won't be possible to use the card.

It sounds like there's something particular to those x1 slots that is causing the problem. It may be that there will be something in the BIOS that could help, but it's very difficult to suggest what this could be without knowing the motherboard. Sometimes you can change the amount of bandwidth shared amongst the slots, or maybe there's another feature of the PCIe slots that doesn't play nicely with certain cards installed in the slot. It's also possible that there could be an incompatibility with those slots, but this is quite rare.

If you don't get anywhere it's worth giving support a call again, and see if you can troubleshoot the issue with them.

I remember on Apple Mac Pro systems some BlackMagic cards required to be placed in a specific PCI slot by it's order (if I'm not mistaking it strictly required to be placed in PCI slot #1 to work).

I suggest properly uninstalling the card (driver uninstall, hardware uninstall, then hardware removal from system), then switching the BlackMagic card to the highest PCI slot (presumably PCI slot #1) and undergoing all the driver and software install procedure.

If there are no changes, try the lowest PCI slot (theoretically it should be the last PCI slot, but it might be a manufacturers peculiarity to have placed PCI slot order from bottom up).

As another thing to try is to check for BIOS updates for your motherboard and check if the changelog mentions any changes related to PCI/PCIe slots ... perhaps it's a bug in the BIOS version you currently have.

had the same problem: I had to uppgrade the power supply and then it worked like a charm.

So check that out first.

Good luck Stefan
