Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock + Shuttle Thunderbolt

PostThu Jan 29, 2015 4:17 pm

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried to use
Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock x 3 Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt? (or even more!)

Wondering if this is possible!

The TB Express dock only has 1 TB socket for daisy chaining & 3 USB 3 sockets, so you could only plug in 1 TB Shuttle and possibly some USB 3 Shuttles, although I wouldn't want to risk it as USB 3 shuttles are notoriously fussy

If you check out.. it has two thunderbolt ports at the back
so im wondering if you connect two Ultra Studio Recorders at the back end of the Thunderbolt Express Dock, and the other Intensity Shuttle THunderbolt.. will that work! :)

It only has 2 thunderbolt sockets in total, 1 to connect to the computer then another to use to plug in a thunderbolt device. The cable that goes out through the back loops through the middle and into one of those TB sockets.

All you have to do is read the features for the device, it clearly states what sockets the unit has

I have one of these devices, and one of the major disappointment is the lack of Thunderbolt ports. What I did though was move the rest of my periphals to USB3 since my iMac doesn't natively have USB3, which freed up more Thunderbolt ports for me. Not ideal, but it was helpful.

I think the idea is that you can daisy chain up to six devices on Thunderbolt.
Most peripherals will have two Thunderbolt ports making it possible to daisy chain.
Each port on the Mac can have six peripherals daisy chained.
Some devices will only have one and this will be placed at the end of the daisy chain.

Great idea! Although daisy chaining a couple of shuttles with expensive thunderbolt express could skyrock the cost pretty high! Might as well get a MacPro! :)

Thanks guys. Having issues with my USB 3.0 Shuttle, waiting for the Shuttle Thunderbolt to arrive. :)

So if I successfully get the USB 3.0 Shuttle to work, then it would be..
Shuttle Thunderbolt
Ultra Studio Mini Recorder Thunderbolt
Shuttle USB 3.0

3 cameras going into the computer, running a live stream.
Thats the idea anyway.

Sadly, this is just theory. The great majority of Thunderbolt devices only have a single thunderbolt connection so daisy chaining simply is not possible under most circumstances.
