Blackmagic Media Express feature request

PostSat May 30, 2015 10:21 am

Hi all,
we do lots of sports programs which are edited in post. We use Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4k and Mini Recorder with Macbook Pro and capture with Blackmagic Media Express. I like the Media Express for never crashing on me but the toolset is pretty limited.

Nice feature addition to Media Express would be split record feature. A button which makes a split cut to the footage and saves a clip on the hard drive but immediately continues capturing another without losing any frames between the clips. This would speed up editing long sporting events with many participants. You'll have individual clips for all the athletes and but still have the whole competition recorded. And editor could just start editing relevant clips while the recording is still going on.

Some kind of marking system would also be awesome. "In and out" points to metadata which you could see in Premiere/Avid/Final Cut. You should be able to make these markings to footage while recording one long clip. For example "Goal 1-0", "Penalty", "Celebrations" etc. If someone knows capture software like this for mac please link it up.

What if you just bought two Media Express recorders and then used a distribution amp to split the signal (video, sound, and timecode) between them, then used one to overlap the other?
