GoPro4 HDMI out into SDI in Decklink Studio 2

PostSun Jun 28, 2015 4:23 pm

hi,

I'm having a problem;
I want the live feed from a GOPro hero 4 (silver) on my PC to use in a video program (Resolume arena).
The GOPro is on 720p 50FPS, because the output of the video program is a LED screen.

The GOPro uses HDMI out, my Decklink studio 2 Card has HDMI in, with works perfectly; So in Resolume this setups works perfect.

Nevertheless, I want it to convert to SDI* and capture the SDI signal with the Decklink 2 card.
therefor, i use the Mini Converter HDMI to SDI 4K, but this doesn't work.
Setting are all off, no forced HD hence i only use 720p 50FPS
-> I've tried changing the setting to 720p 60FPS / 1080p 50FPS / 1080p 60FPS but no results
-> the settings all work when I use the direct HDMI out to the HDMI in of the Decklink Studio 2

I did the exact same situation a while ago, but with a Barco Folsom Image Pro II,
where the image pro converted the signal form HDMI to SDI. This setup (rented Folsom) works perfect.

Any thoughts how I can make the setup work with a Mini Converter HDMI to SDI 4K ?
Is this a HDCP problem ?

*The GOPRO is located 75m from the PC, so I prefer to use (cheap) SDI over Fiber (expensive)

Thanks !

I've been looking around,

it it possible that my version of the decklink it so old ?
It is the decklink studio, not the 4K.

So the source is HDMI; 720p
to converter will transform this to 3G-SDI, not HD-SDI; or is this not the case ?

3G-SDI is not matchable with the decklink studio ...

Do you have a SDI monitor you can test the signal from the Mini Converter with the camera hooked up to it? It seems that with the GoPros, they tend to output a different resolution/frame rate than the actual capture so you would want to verify this.

They do. The format of the output is supposed to be negotiated via EDID with the receiving device.

Feature request: Please give BMD's HDMI to SDI converters the ability to speak EDID to the source and request a specific resolution/frame rate.

I'll pass this feature request along.
