BUG - Desktop Video -> System Audio not working on mac

Hi

This seems to be a long standing BUG

If the OSX system settings are set to output audio via the Intensity pro 4K card
(and others from the reports)

any and all video outside of resolve will not play
(quick time x , quicktime 7, vlc , isadora , others...)

the first frame is shown and it freezes play back there....

this seems to go back at least three versions of the Desktop Video software...

WHEN IS THIS GONNA GET FIXED!....

I'm a happy resolve user
but I do have to use other software for resolve to be useful.
this seems to be both a long standing problem
and an indication of blackmagic reaching too far into the OS.

I hope BMD learns to play nice

Our issues is similar, but only limited to Adobe Audition. (We use FCPX, not Premiere). Hitting play in an Audition project results in a single frame of playback, then a freeze of the program. Can't even scrub audio in Audition. We recently upgraded from Yosemite to the El Capitan 10.11.5. We also upgraded Blackmagic Desktop Video from 10.5 to 10.6.8. Adobe Audition was working just fine in our former configuration.

very similar issue happened to me, although I use the Ultrastudio 4k.

Updated Desktop Video to 10.6 (from 10.5.4), and whilst i could still edit video/audio using Autodesk Smoke 2017, i could no longer use Pro Tools at all.

I use the US4K for Pro Tools playback and video monitoring, but i lost all video output in ProTools, and all audio output too. If i tried a project with just audio, it looked like it was working but no audio was heard. If a video track was present, the entire project refuse to play and kept throwing out weird error messages.

The only solution was to re-install 10.5.4 and now it seems to be working again.

pity BMD dont spend as much time product testing existing kit as releasing new toys!

Same here. No joy with 10.6 and 10.7 under OS X 10.10 with Intensity Pro 4k. I can confirm -> Downgrade to 10.5.4 works fine.

Further testing revealed Adobe Media Encoder also does not pass audio (and locks up similar to Audition) ... and Quicklook in MacOS will not play nor pass audio either while the system audio is set to Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K. I'll be rolling back the Desktop Video software to 10.5.4 or 10.5 to hopefully get everything back to normal again.

Same thing here. No system audio since Desktop Video 10.7. Worked fine with 10.5.4.

We also have issues with video lock ups using anything later than 10.5.4 across all of our system, rendering the last two versions useless.

PLEASE fix this Blackmagic,this bug must affect a lot of people!

We have the same issue as well - no system audio on any Blackmagic driver after 10.5.4.

I can tell you it also doesn't work on a Windows 10 machine. Everything was fine, then suddenly it stopped working.

I took the solution most of the Mac folks were doing, and went back to 1.5.4. That's a long way back to solve an issue.

Come on BlackMagic, let's get this fixed NOW!

Same here! System audio switched to Decklink let all Desktop Video stuck at first frame with any Media Player like Quicktime, Switch, VLC, etc. No fix with 10.7.1. Revert to 10.5.4 or do not use Decklink as System Audio fixes that problem. There are no playback problems using the driver with Premiere, AVID, Resolve as long as the system audio is not set to decklink. Please BlackMagic fix it.

Reverting to 10.5.4 handled the issue.

Yup, I've hit this issue as well on OS X 10.11.5 with Desktop Video 10.7.1. Bummer. Will go back to 10.5.4.

Blackmagic, please add the following to your standard suite of tests for any Desktop Video build:

1. set OS X System Preferences > Sound > Output > Blackmagic DeckLink 4K Extreme (or other Blackmagic device that's being tested)
2. open a quicktime file that includes sound and video in QuickTime Player X and hit play

Any fail of either audio playback through the Blackmagic device or video playback on the computer screen should block the release of that build.

Intermittently I find that I can play quicktime movies if I open DaVinci and leave it in the background. Otherwise quicktime movies just wont play. Not in QT7, QTX or in web browsers. Sound is still spotty.

Can't downgrade because DNxIO box wont let us go back far enough.

I was having same issue with my UltraStudio 4K and BM Desktop Video 10.7.1 and earlier versions. Some versions are fixed, some are not. The toggle is very unprofessional.

The mythical 10.7.2 fix is nowhere to be seen.

My fix was to uninstall the BM software and install AJA io4K software. Everything works like a charm now. I will only be purchasing AJA for our facility until I hear about stability coming to BM.

Blackmagic just released Desktop Video 10.8.
Do NOT install if you are using Media Composer!
It finally fixes the "no system audio bug" B U T introduces extremely laggy timeline scrubbing in Avid Media Composer.
Scrubbing through the timeline is painfully laggy and the video output is not updated during scrubbing.
Unusable ... back to DV 10.5.4 again!

So I have a variation on this. I'm on the latest El Capitan on a Mac Tower. I just installed an Intensity Pro 4k card with Desktop Video 10.8. Using application audio hardware prefs. I happily get 6 channels out of Premiere and Audition.

But if I have system default audio set to BM Intensity Pro and sleep then wake the box, I lose QT playback - it sticks on the first frame.

However if I have system default audio set to line out, then sleep and wake has no effect.

This bug is not for mac only , I have the same problem on windows with the Desktop Video 10.9.3.
