delivering for iTunes movies - stereo 2.0 and 5.1

PostWed Apr 19, 2017 8:44 pm

Hi

Re: delivering for iTunes movies - stereo 2.0 and 5.1

Can anyone with professional experience help? I am delivering a movie for iTunes via a distributor

iTunes require:
File: Pro Res 422 HQ
1920 × 1080
Native Frame Rate
Film: 23.97, 25 (Pal) or 29.98
Audio: Must have 8 channels of audio for 5.1, or if not mixed with 5.1 then you may submit in Stereo:
6. 5.1 – L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs Ch. 7 stereo left, Ch. 8 stereo right / PCM Little Endian / Each audio channel needs to be its own track

I only have mono audio. Within Davinci resolve how can i deliver stero 2.0 and 5.1 audio. itunes do not accept dual mono as a stereo 2.0 option. See attached both files.

Thanks
Richard :)

You have only mono mix?
Don't have stereo or 5.1 mix?
Is it old movie?

You have just dialogue and music as mono tracks or all 8 needed channels as mono and don't know how to export?
You need to create proper stereo mix (you need some VST stereo expander plugin) and if you don't have 5.1 then forget about it as this is not a requirement.
You can send master just with stereo audio.

I have music , special effects , dialogue 1, dialogue 2, atoms as separate mono tracks

Can you recommend a VST stereo expander plugin - would that be accepted by iTunes as a stereo 2.0 file?

You need to create a proper stereo mix out of your elements.
Not really a Resolve job, but job for an audio engineer.

Richard, the new Resolve 14 includes an audio production tool/section (Fairlaight program) which you can use to take your audio components and mix into a stereo signal. You need to set the mono signal through a mix bus, and pan it to center to get an equal mix on a stereo output pair, then by panning on signal slightly to left or right you can place the mono signal in between the left and right stereo pair, creating a stereo effect of sorts. In dialogue can be centered more to left or right depending on where in the video they are, and the opposite for the other speaker, so the audio placement matches the video.

You can also get audio plug ins to help with this. An experienced audio engineer is not a bad idea either.
