Ultra Studio Mini Monitor w/ TB3 to TB1 adapter NOT working

PostMon Jul 03, 2017 3:49 pm

Hello,

I've been looking and searching through the forum for some advice on my problem but haven't been able to find something that even remotely works.

Here's the thing:
I bought a Mini Monitor to have a full screen view of my work on Da Vinci Resolve 12.5
I'm working while on a move on a Windows 10 laptop with a GTX 1060.
I've installed the latest drivers (both of the BM Desktop video setup and the thunderbolt drivers for Windows) and plugged the Mini Monitor to an TB3 to TB1 adapter (Akitio T3T) that worked flawlessly on my computer to connect TB hard drives.

And then plugged my monitor to the Ultra Studio Mini Monitor through HDMI.
Everything seems to be recognized, the green light is on, my computer recognizes the Mini Monitor and I can change the preferences on the Desktop video setup.

Now when I start working Da Vinci Resolve, the output of the video is broken on my external monitor: it plays but it's full of lines, jittering, green lines, double images.... it's really looking like an old damaged videotape image !

My material is usually in 1080 25p.

Whatever the different setups are (PsF on or off, 25p or 50i) it just doesn't seem to work (the problem changes a bit: more or less lines, more or less jitter...).
The only preset that gives a stable image is the old PAL preset.

I have tested and had the same problem with an Iiyama HD display and a Cinema HD display by Apple. Changed the HDMI and TB cables also.

If you have any idea what's going on I would very much appreciate :) thanks a lot for reading this anyway!
I'm just a bit afraid that it's a problem related to the Thunderbolt Windows drivers...

Hello,
Did you find a solution to your problem? I have same.
Look:

Ultrastudio is connected and recognized by my laptop, and I can't get any video from it. This jittering is the only video I can get from this device on 50i settings. If I want to get 1080 25p the screen is black. Futhermore playback on GUI is choppy if I choose blackmagic in video i/o menu.

My setup is:
Dell 7730 Windows 10 throught:
Thunderbolt 3 to 2 startech adapter
2m thunderbolt 2 apple cable

My thunderbolt 3 drivers are latest, bios is latest, blackmagic driver is latest.
How to make this work? BM claims Ultrastudio Monitor is supposed to work with Windows.

Could it be 2m thunderbolt cable is too long to provide power? Any ideas, who does have simmilar setup?

Hi
I'm having the exact same problem
Only works well if I select 4:4:4 SDI in Resolve
Premiere output is completely garbled, the same with Resolve in any other setting.

My setup
HP Omen 15 Laptop > Thunderbolt 3 Port > Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter > Apple 50CM TB2 cable > Ultrastudio Mini Monitor > HDMI or SDI output to HDMI TV or SDI to HDMI converter

Tried with different HDMI/SDI cables, and different monitors. Always the same result.

I tried drivers from 10.4.2 to 11.1.4 and there is no difference, it seems like an adapter problem.

The same setup works well on my hackintosh with thunderbolt 3 while running macos HS

I replaced the adapter for a new Cable Matters Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, and still getting the same error.

Do people from Blackmagic read this messages?

I found a possible solution.
I have the same adaptor and Ultrastudio Mini Monitor on my HP Omen laptop and i encountered the same jittering issue.
I disabled the power saving on PCI Express so the jittering disappeared.
You have to go power management settings and there you have to disable power saving on PCI Express.

That fixed it.
Thanks a lot!
Can confirm it is working with both my computers in Windows 10.
