10-bit capture using Desktop media express

PostTue Sep 04, 2012 8:15 pm

Hello. I recently purchased a 3d studio pro for use with my laptop computer. I am trying to capture 10-bit dpx files from a source that I am 99.9999% sure is outputting 10-bit video. Whenever I set the capture file format to dpx 10-bit RGB, I am only able to get 8-bit RGB imagery from the box.

Have other people encountered this issue? I have this same problem when I have captured from multiple (what I believe to be) 10-bit HD-SDI sources.

Am I doing something incorrectly in my preferences?

Thanks,
SB

Is it possible its a limitation of the software rather than the hardware?
I tried to use it once and was shocked to see it couldn't create timecoded captured media. Effectively no use as a Pro tool.

Eh...Media Express should have no problem capturing 10bit. In fact we count on it.

Other softwares could potentially have this limitation, but it should not be happening in Media Express.

So how are you examining the files that shows it as 8 bit?

Also if you are not using a 10bit source that could be an issue as well, so confirm that source is actually doing 10 bit.

I wouldn't expect this issue to be about preferences. But, to get 10bit RGB DPX, you do have to be using one of our RGB supported formats which are all dual link. So if you are doing dual link you need to set for dual link or 3Gb in.

And finally does hte issue occur when you capture 10bit YUV?
