12G SDI to Display Port

PostFri Oct 27, 2017 7:46 am

Hello Brains trust.

Need to convert from 12G SDI DIRECTLY to Display port i.e. not via HDMI.

Trying to push from an Ultrastudio 3 to a Eizo 4k monitor at 4096:2160 @ 24p in 444 RGB.

Unfortunately, the Eizo can only do 444 on the display port input, it can do 422 on the HDMI, and it has no SDI inputs at all.

So, I need a way to cleanly convert from 12G SDI into display port.

Anyone got any ideas?

How about the Apantac Micro-4K-DP? This needs quad SDI inputs so you'd need to feed it from a Teranex SDI-Quad. Check the specs as I've not used any of this gear.

This is only solution on the market. You need to convert 12G into 4x 3G SDI and then use Apantec.
There are people on this forum using it successfully with Eizo.
There is no 12G SDI to DP 1.2 converter. 12G is poorly supported atm. Also DP is not well supported in "broadcast" products either.
The only box which may be able to convert 12G SDI to DP 1.2 is https://www.omnitek.tv/ultra?slider=0&g ... gL9gvD_BwE

but this is analyser and most likely costs small fortune.

24K will buy you this converter analyser ;)

An Analog Way Vio-24 will also do the trick..

But i do think it would be cheaper to buy a 4K monitor that has the propper inputs..
Or maybe even better Why not install a video card that is capable of 4k. And skip the whole 12G sdi and just send your video output to the videocard straight into the monitor.. ;)

Why don't I buy a cheap monitor?
The EIZO IS cheaper than an X300 :-)

I see this is an old topic but this solution could still be relevant to some.

We solved the 12G monitoring dilemma a different way some years ago when BMD released their Decklink SDI 4K Pro card. This 12G I/O device offers on-board 4K>HD downscale on SDI #2 which we run to a BMD HD-Link SDI to DP converter. Our Resolve 4K timeline is hardware down scale in the Decklink to our Rec709 calibrated IPS PG2401PT monitor where we see 10bit 4:4:4.

The Decklink's 4K SDI #1 output runs direct to our 4K client TV through a BMD SDI to HDMI converter located at the back of the set using only a short HDMI 2 cable. This setup has proved to be very successful for some time now but BenQ's new PV271 4K monitor is fitted with a 12G SDI input.

Problem is 12G SDI to DP 1.2 (eg. to have 4K 50/60p or 4:4:4), so what you have described doesn't really solve it.

12G SDI would be useful.

Yes and they said PV270 is the only BenQ display which can be actually hardware (internally) calibrated.
