AVI support in Resolve

PostThu Sep 06, 2012 3:08 pm

Is there going to be support for avi files in Resolve for PC users? How about all the codecs that come with the PC versions of NLEs? I downloaded the 9 beta in preparing for the BMC cam. Right now out of all the codecs I have the only thing that Resolve will read are the mp4 files I make to upload to YouTube. Obviously this doesn't make Resolve very useful. Yes I could convert to a mov file but between the problems of the gamma shifting in Quicktime and in my experience not all PC programs work quite right when using Quicktime files it is not a good solution.

I emailed Blackmagic and here's their response.

Hi Tim,

We've had lots of interest in providing AVI file support on Resolve for Windows. So we are certainly aware that people would like that. Unfortunately, I can't give you any guidance as to if or when that will happen. We are continually adding additional CODEC support to Resolve, so hopefully AVI support will happen at some point.

Sounds like they are aware of the issue but it's not on the roadmap anytime soon. But then again, maybe they will suprise us like they did with the MFT mount for the BMC.
