Premiere Pro: Blackmagic audio = no signal

Looking for some advice on an older/discontinued unit, hoping someone here has had a similar experience:

System: Mac Pro 2013, 3Ghz 8-core, D700, Sierra, Premiere CC17
Output devices: UltraStudio Mini >HDLinkPro DVI > HP Dreamcolor

Been running the "band-aid" solution to get a 4:4:4 RGB signal into the Dreamcolor for about 5 months now. Just recently we started having audio issues with playback in Premiere; if we set the Playback Audio to "Blackmagic Audio" we get no audio, but with "Adobe Desktop Audio" it's fine. Have checked all cables and audio output settings on the Mac, everything is correct. We do get some audio after a fresh restart, but within 20 mins. or so the audio fails.Note that the video output to the Dreamcolor is fine even when the audio is not working.

Pretty sure it's one of the two Blackmagic devices, perhaps the HDLink is slowly failing? Trying to figure out ways to test both devices separately to see where the fault is; assuming in either case there would be no fix other than a new unit? If you've ever used this setup and have had audio issues please let me know!

If you are using a Thunderbolt Mini Monitor, then that behaviour is normal. The audio selection in Premiere is for BMD devices with seperate audio in/out connectors. The Mini Monitor can only use embedded audio which is why there is no audio if you select the Blackmagic Audio option.

But there IS audio on the HDLink Pro, which is connected directly to the Mini Monitor. When I select Blackmagic as the audio output the embedded SDI audio is converted to analog via the HDLink and outputs to the speakers; I can confirm this by changing the input volume on the mixer it's attached to.

Surely the Blackmagic driver accounts for even embedded audio in Premiere? If the reference monitor had speakers (which, unfortunately it does not) then we would want to hear the audio directly from the Mini Monitor and not the computer line out, because they would be out of sync.

This system was working last week, but there have been glitches like today where audio (and sometimes video) cuts out. I'm just trying to figure out if I indeed have it set up incorrectly or if one of the devices is malfunctioning.

What resolution is the timeline? I have had this happen if, for example, I have a 1920 25P timeline and my monitor does not actually support 25P.
The output resolution in After Effects is defined in the video preview settings, whereas Premiere Pro outputs whatever the sequence is set to. So they can be on different settings which is why one could work and not the other.
