Connecting new iMac Pro to calibrated Dreamcolor monitor

PostTue Apr 10, 2018 12:04 pm

I'm managing a team for a film making competition and need to make sure that I have the gear set up correctly as it's one of those competitions where everything is put together in 48 hours, so there's no time to get things wrong.

I'm providing a brand new iMac Pro for the color grade, for use with Davinci Resolve, and the grader is bringing a calibrated Dreamcolor Z24x monitor on the day. Usually the monitor is connected to a PC via a Decklink Mini Monitor PCI card.

My question is, can we simply connect the monitor with a USB-C to HDMI 2.0 cable and the iMac Pro will output an appropriate 10-bit signal for grading on the monitor, or do we need some kind of external (USB-C) graphics chip to make it work as expected.

Keep it simple and reliable- use BM card like you did on PC. There are few options TB2/3 based.
