BMD UpDownCross HD questions...

PostThu Apr 12, 2018 1:20 pm

Hi there,

I'm looking for a solution to hook up outputs from presenter's laptops (Mac and PC) in a conference environment. The ideal solution will enable connection to an ATEM switcher, fed by 3 cameras and the feed from the laptop, and also to a 1080 projector via HDMI. Currently we loop-through VGA from the projector with associated quality loss and distortion - less than ideal. We also have to deal with presenters (most of whom are not tech-savvy) using a host of differing resolutions. Typically it's default 1024x768, but can vary.

We record in 1080i50, and the cameras feed this resolution too.

How does the UpDownCross scale VGA resolutions to HD? Will it scale to HD with pillarboxing, or does it distort? Can we use the SDI and HDMI outs simultaneously? (SDI to ATEM, HDMI to projector)

Any help appreciated!

Cheers,

Jason

The UpDownCross HD does not do VGA.. VGA is a old analog standard used in computers..

It will scale like you tell it to scale.. So connect the software and make a setting..
You could put a HDMI monitor to the output from the UDC HD as a reference monitor for the presenter to see what his second outputs to the Atem setup is.. Or use the HDMI to the beamer.. But then only the presentation will be on the beamer..
Also dont forget that HDMI is only build for a few meters.. (up to 5m to be safe) So if your beamer is further away you need to pull a BNC cable to the beamer. Put a Micro SDI > HDMI converter on the beamer. And use the Second SDI output on the DUC HD

What you could do is put a statement to all presenters they have to connect to HDMI from now on.. :D
You could buy a Datavideo DAC 70 Which does cross convert also with VGA.
Or buy a cheap VGA to HDMI converter.. (Dont buy those cable thingys.. They want to draw the power from HDMI.. But use a version with power supply)
