Stuttery sound

since 2 days, the sound of my entire footage is ultra-stuttery (I acutally can't work, as I can't understand the dialogues...)! It has not been like this before - the framerate is fine, so is the sound when I play the clips in i.e. VLC - does anybody have an idea what might be wrong?
