BMD eGPU with Adobe Premiere

PostMon Jul 23, 2018 9:53 pm

Hi All,

I picked up the BMD eGPU last week. I have it connected directly to my 2016 MacBook Pro with an i7 2.9GHz processor and 16GB of memory. I'm rendering some effects Red Giant Holomatrix II in Premiere and it doesn't seem to be utilizing the Radeon Pro 580 inside the eGPU at all. Is there a setting I need to change in Premiere to activate it? Or does the eGPU not work yet with Premiere?

Still no usage of the Radeon 580 in the eGPU. Hmm.

I'm afraid that it'll take some time until Adobe notices that eGPU ;-)

At the moment it's really just for Resolve users or gamers with a laptop. Please note that you can direct Resolve to use that GPU, but most third party plug-ins will not use more than one GPU.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

So it looks like after the latest Premiere update (12.1.2 posted on 7/16/18) I just installed, the render is now utilizing the eGPU! Oddly, the on-board GPU Radeon Pro 460 is getting worked hard, but the eGPU's Radeon Pro 580 is finally starting to work, albeit with a low workload. Most importantly, my render time dropped from 2-1/2 hours to about half of that. If rendering time gets cut in half for everything, it'll be well worth the 700 spent.

It's time for Adobe to let you choose processing GPU (like Resolve does).
