How to convert VOB to AVI

I have several VOB files that I want to convert to AVI format. How to make it simple?

Try Vdub2 on PC.

Euhhhh Shoot me if i'm wrong... But wasn't there some "trick" by renaming .vob to .avi ??
Remember something like that on my windows machines but been too long ago that i touched that stuff....

Actually it is a Mpeg2 file right? Changing it to .avi makes the software look at the wrapper.. Depending on the software it will pick it up or trow an error..

This is not going to work.
In this way you can trick players which use extension to identify files, but this is "crazy" workaround (specially when there is no really such a thing like mpeg2 data inside AVI container).
It's the same as trying to re-name DNG into DPX

Sometimes renaming .VOB to .TS helps, because both are stream formats i guess, it helped also to make VOB or .REC streams playable on my (blu-ray) mediaplayer.

What is the reason to convert it to the avi container format ? avi doesn't play that good in some players i thought...
Are the VOBs from a DVD, a camera or other device ?
On what kind of player you want to playback ? you want it to convert it to a MP4 format ?
what kind of a project this will be ?
