DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G - output limitation?

PostFri Jul 27, 2018 7:46 pm

Hi all, a customer just called and told me that he couldn't output 4K DCI 25p over HDMI (although it is HDMI 2.0a).

A look at the tech specs reveals the following:

4K Video Standards
4K DCI 23.98p, 4K DCI 24p, 4K DCI 25p (25p over SDI only)

(I'm quite sure that the info wasn't there in spring...)

Anyway why is there such a limitation? From the technical side it is possible.

Customer could buy the Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 12G converter because the unit can output everything via HDMI. It even can output 4K DCI 30p.

Any help and input highly appreciated.

SDI only for 25p was not mentioned on the site as recently as May.

25p DCI is not defined in HDMI spec (I think), so it's bit grey area for support.
Some tools do it, others don't. With 1.4 chip there was not enough bandwidth to do 30p for all pixel formats. With 2.0 chip it should be not a problem.
