Smartscope 4K

PostSat Aug 11, 2018 7:55 pm

Installed a Smartscope 4K dual and Smartview 4K monitor to take the load off Resolve generating the scopes.

Why are the external scopes monochrome on a color display, especially the RGB parade and histograms.

Will this ever be fixed BM???

Also has anyone loaded a lut to improve the color balance of the monitor?

I have a HD Sony BVM for grading but I want to avoid the usual questions from clients about "which one is right?"

At the moment, they are so different with no way to adjust the 4K monitor....

It just shows you that this monitor is just "some preview". Don't expect more.
Has BM added low pas filtering to 4K model? If not then these scopes are about useless as you will have misleading results with overshoots. Check it against Tektronix.

dont expect a fix.. The product is 3/4 years old now and will probabbly be replaced by a 12G model with new options in it..

Still i do trust the scope on my Atomos more then the smartscope...

It all depends what you use it for.
If it's same old model then there is no low pass filtering, so you will be seeing things going over 100% where in reality these are just overshoots and should be filtered. It was confirmed by BM that it's hardware limitation and can't be "fixed". If you have Tektronix you can flip low pass filtering on/off and see what difference does it make.
Smartscopes are unreliable, specially when used for broadcast, eg. QC. Atomos is probably the same.
