2k on a 1080p monitor?

PostTue Aug 21, 2018 12:12 am

Is it possible to send a 2k signal to a 1080p monitor?

When I edit in 2k, my screens only display the 1080p portion of the 2k image, the sides of the image are slightly cut off.

Any way to show full 2k within 1080p with black bars on top and bottom?

I have a decklink 4k card.

Thanks!

You have to change Resolve scaling option to fit whole image, not to crop.
It's actually not so well supported in Resolve.
You have to set your main project to 2K, SDI monitoring to HD, then Image Scaling/Output Scaling to HD with "Scale entire image to fit". This should sent 2K fit into HD to your monitoring. Problem is that this will also set default output resolution to HD, so before 2K export you need to go and reset Output Scaling to match project.

You can also check if card has setting for scaling 2K to HD, then it's better if you can just change it there.

Hmm...I'll have to look for that. I don't remember seeing those settings on the card.

I wanted to play 2K 2048x1080 in my HDTV and was hoping the television would do the down convert but it didn’t so ended up delivering HD 1920x1012 from 2K original media as this video needed the full horizontal angle of view. When the sides aren’t critical, I usually leave the deliverables in 2K.
