Converting SDI to Analog

PostTue Sep 04, 2018 2:58 am

Hi all,

I have an SDI input which I wish to convert to PAL and also extract the Timecode into an RS422. Should I be looking at the Teranex Mini or is there another product that I can consider for my use?

Thank you very much.

The Teranex mini SDI to Analog 12G will do a part of the job for you.

Hey, thanks for your help!

I guess I'll get the Teranex mini and try to find some converter for the timecode then.

Do you mean... send the Timecode down an RS422 control interface? As in... perhaps remote control editing to a videotape recorder?

Yes, I want to send the timecode down an RS422 control interface, but so far I've not seen anything that allows me to convert XLR to RS422. The only thing I'm close to is those timecode readers, but I'm not really an expert in this area so I can't be sure.

You might want to investigate something like the ultraStudio HDMini:
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/ca/pro ... /techspecs

This is a standard function of RS-422 machine control for devices that support the 9-pin breakout protocol.

In the RS422 protocol, timecode is RP188.
Timecode is also part of the SDI digital stream. TC Generators aboard professional video tape recorders should have an option to slave to the incoming SDI stream.

Alright, thank you very much! I'll check it out when my set-up is complete with the Teranex Mini.
