Brand new Micro Converter HDMI to SDI not working

PostSun Sep 02, 2018 7:22 pm

I have a VGA feed (1280 x 720, at, I think, 60 hertz refresh rate) converted to HDMI by another converter, with the necessary goal being to get it converted to SDI -- ideally using the new BlackMagic Micro Converter HDMI to SDI we bought.

We know the HDMI signal looks good, by plugging it straight into a flat screen and seeing the image.

When we connect to the Micro Converter HDMI to SDI we get no signal on the SDI cable.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Plug it into the TV again. Hit the Info button and tell what you see..

Normally VGA is clocked on 75Hz or higher.. So change is that the first converter outputs HDMI but keeps the high framerate.. TV's will accept this.. BMD converters ONLY handle broadcast SMPTE standard resolution and framerates.. ;)

Dear Xtreemtec

Thank you for the helpful reply!

Two quick questions:

Re: "Hit the info button and tell what you see" -

Where is this info button? Is it a physical button on the Micro Converter?

Re: "BMD converters ONLY handle broadcast SMPTE standard resolution and frame rates" -

Do you have any advice for how I could get the signal converted to standard SMPTE rate? I have a scan converter box involved that feeds a signal to a large wall-mounted display screen. Would the feed from that device possibly be at the right frame rate? I guess I could try it.

Force your feed to be 60Hz if it's not already.

Doug,

Info button on the remote of your TV. Most modern tv's have an info button.. If you push it.. You will get the resolution and framerate displayed on the screen.

Brand and type of the scan converter ?? Every device different with different functions.. Can't determine that without brand and type..

Also post brand and type of the converter you are using now.. ;)
